“Jeez Wayne, we came all this way and all I wanted to see was a [insert species here] and you couldn’t find me one”
“erm…..theres one!"

This is the story of my travels. Hoping, but not expecting, to see species that intrigue me or that are hard to see. Giving up hope and then having them appear. Of course, trying to see rare or elusive critters is one thing, but photographing them is another, I have a list as long as my arm of species I have terrible photos of, but because I am an ecologist and conservation biologist, seeing them is brilliant in itself, so I’m not complaining.
When I’m not accidentally bumping into, falling over, or being hit by rare and ridiculous animals, I’m spending my time motionless and confused in one spot hoping they wont see me and hoping that when something interesting happens my camera is pointing in the right direction.
I’m incredibly lucky to travel the world, but you don’t have to go to tropical islands and rainforests to see incredible creatures. Therefore when I’m not traveling abroad, I do explore the UK and Manchester, which is where I currently call home.
For as long as I can remember I have loved animals and nature, and my family and friends have done nothing to discourage this. My parents bought me my first camera and took me to countless zoos and nature parks, and they didn’t flat out refuse to allow me to keep all kinds of pets.
This collection of photos are some of my favourites, I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have taking them.
*All of my photos are taken in the wild unless otherwise stated. Many I have seen are threatened and as a good biologist I have added the conservation status for those species in the form of the codes: critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN) and vulnerable (VU) to the captions.
