I took this photo of a very handsome, small snake that I saw along the coast of the Kimberley’s in northern Australia. I searched and searched through my books and online to find out what species it is and after looking at every dichotomous key and almost all pictures of greyish browny snakes.

I turned to the internet and a friendly person from ‘What snake is that, Australia?’, took all of 2 minutes to reply with the Latin name of my frustrating little friend. I personally think this is one of the most wonderful way of using the internet. I am reliably informed he is a white bellied mangrove snake (Fordonia leucobalia).
